Hundreds of people lost their lives, thousands of them lost their homes and lakhs were directly affected

At a high wind speed of 185 kmph, cyclone Amphan left a trail of destruction on the coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal. Sundarbans delta – a UNESCO site in West Bengal has been annihilated by ferocious windstorms. Mud houses have been toppled and trees have been uprooted, causing much distress to the inhabitants.

Kilometres of embankments have been completely washed away which had earlier protected agricultural fields from the infiltration of saline water. In the midst of this calamity, COVID- 19 remains a challenge.

CASA is working on the ground to address the aftermath of the cyclone. We are also the head of the disaster management Inter Agency Group (IAG) of West Bengal.
