DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES AND ACTIVITIES OF CASA: PDF Print E-mail

 It can be divided into three categories. 

 1.   Direct Programmes: The Core Programme

2.     Package Programmes: Collective Forms of Cooperation (CFC)

3.     Bilateral Programmes

   1.Direct Programmes: The Core Programme

 
The Core Programme of CASA, which are the direct interventions by the staff of CASA among the reference communities. There is a Round Table mechanism consisting of some of the key resource agencies in the ecumenical field, which support these interventions. CASA tries to address the issue of structural poverty through Rights Based Approach and strengthening people's organisations in the villages. There are 33 Village Resource Centres, known as the PAT Centres (People's Action for Transformation) across the country which implements these programmes. the Core programme is operational in as many as 4.500 villages across the country.  

2. Package Programmes: Collective Forms of Cooperation (CFC)

 The Second category  is the CFC (Collective Forms of Cooperation), popularly known as the “Package Programme”,  where CASA does not implement the programmes directly but plays the role of an accompanier. It supports smaller NGOs and channelise the resources for the programme interventions received from various resource agencies.  CASA supports these NGOs in a long term basis for a maximum period of 10 years. There are as many as 350 partner organisations have been supported by CASA in the CFC interventions so far.   

  
This was initiated in the year 1988 as an enduring partnership with a shared conviction and commitment between CASA, the Programme implementing Organizations (PIOs) and EED as the resource-sharing partner.

Ø  Development Initiative in Western Orissa

Ø  Empowerment of NGOs in West Bengal

Ø  Rajasthan Development Project – Phase III / Rajasthan Vikash Manch

Ø  Restoring Lost Childhood Project (RLCP)

Ø  Development Programme in North East India (DPNEI)

Ø  Lymphatic Filariasis Programme in Orissa

Ø  Community Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation Programme (CDPMP)

Ø  West Bengal Community Based Disaster Preparedness  Programme

Ø  Community Based Disaster Preparedness (CBDP)

Ø  Food Security and Nutrition Improvement Programme (FSNIP)

Ø  Regional Inter Agency Partnership (RIAP) between India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka)

Ø  Food for Community Development Programe

Ø  Material Resource Department (MRD)

 3. Bilateral Programmes

There are certain strategic partnership programmes of CASA which are carried out with certain partners with specific focus and strategy where both CASA and the concerned partner organisation share the financial as well as human resources to achieve a common goal.  Some of the Bilateral programmes of CASA is being carried out with the HRLN (Human Rights Law Networks),  etc.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF ADIVASI POPULATION IN JHARKHAND

CASA has been working in the state of Bihar for a very long time.This 10-year project supported by EED, Germany, started in 1998 currently in its 3rd phase comprises of 11 partners operational in Jharkhand and one in Bodhgaya (Bihar), covering 9 district, 12 blocks and 223 villages. The 5 key issue tackled are; Mismanagement of Natural Resources, Gender Injustice, Food Insecurity, Identity crisis and marginalisation of tribal Self Governance System. The total number of people displaced in Jharkhand from the year 1951 – 1995 is 15, 03,017. Out of which 6, 20,372 belong to the scheduled tribe, 2, 12,892 belong to the scheduled caste and 6, 76,575 belong to other categories
