CASA OBSERVES THE “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY” TODAY THE 5TH JUNE, 2009

NewsWorld Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

Commemorated yearly on 5 June, World Environment Day   is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. The day's agenda is to:

   1. Give a human face to environmental issues;
   2. Empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development;
   3. Advocate partnership which will ensure all nations and peoples enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.

The theme for World Environment Day - 2009 is 'Your Planet Needs You-Unite to Combat Climate Change'. It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new deal at the crucial climate change convention   in Copenhagen   6 months later in the year, and the links with overcoming poverty and improved management of forests.

CASA believes that we human beings are expected to be the stewards of God’s creation and work towards preserving our mother Earth.  CASA is committed to a sustainable & equitable development and is working towards drastically reducing the carbon footprints of the organization and its stakeholders.  While doing so, we want to ensure that the poor and the vulnerable are the key stakeholders in the decision making processes as they would be the most affected in the aftermath of adverse effects of climate change and global warming.

Several events are being organized at the community level by CASA & its partners on this Occasion.
