CASA contributes to the Himachal Pradesh Dist.Disaster Management Plan, Kullu

We are pleased to  inform you that CASA has substantially contributed to the recently published   District Disaster Management plan jointly prepared by Kullu District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Himachal Pradesh .  To read the said document please click here or on the Himachal Pradesh Government website http://hpkullu.nic.in/disaster/DDMP-2011.pdf .

In the document you can see the contribution of our apex PAT unit CSK (Chetna Samiti Kullu) in Kullu, local CASA unit and Mountain Forum Himalayas (an effort of CASA in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) in preparing this district disaster management plan and a separate chapter dedicated to CASA’s PROPOSAL OF DISASTER YOUTH VOLUNTEER on page 197.  You can also see Chapter – 6.3, Resource plan, Page – 40-42, where special emphasis has been given  in emergency situations,  to adhere to the principles of “DO NO HARM’, which is a key approach of CASA’s Local Capacities for Peace (LCP).

To meet CASA officials for  expansion
Of LF Programme in Orissa


With financial assistance of IMA (Interchurch Medical Assistance) CASA has undertaken LF Elimination Programme in Orissa since May 2003.The present/ second phase of our above programme is directly covering about 10000 patients out of a total population of 285000 (approx) in 440 villages (three blocks) in the State of Orissa.


In order to assess the progress of implementation and expansion of CASA’s aforesaid Programme in Orissa Dr. Sarla Chand (Vice President) IMA World Health visited Delhi from 13th to 17th April, 2009. Incidentally, Dr. Sarla Chand had also visited CASA’s LF Programme areas in Orissa along with Dr. LeAnne Fox of CDC Atlanta and Ms Erika Pearl of IMA (USA) in the month of November 2008.

During the period, besides meeting CASA’s Director (Dr. Sushant Agrawal),  Dr. Sarla Chand met officials  of CDC,  India office in US Embassy, LEPRA representatives as well the Director (Dr. G.P.S. Dhillon) and Deputy Director  (Dr. P.K. Srivastava) of the National Vector Bourne Disease Control Programme, (GOI), New Delhi, and apprised  them of  CASA’s  on going  LF Elimination Programme in Orissa.

CASA now intends to enter into an MOU with Government of India, and in collaboration with the Centre/ State Government authorities, and with the continued support of IMA as well, implement/ expand its LF Elimination programme in Orissa and other parts of the country as well in a more effective manner.
