CASA contributes to the Himachal Pradesh Dist.Disaster Management Plan, Kullu

We are pleased to  inform you that CASA has substantially contributed to the recently published   District Disaster Management plan jointly prepared by Kullu District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Himachal Pradesh .  To read the said document please click here or on the Himachal Pradesh Government website http://hpkullu.nic.in/disaster/DDMP-2011.pdf .

In the document you can see the contribution of our apex PAT unit CSK (Chetna Samiti Kullu) in Kullu, local CASA unit and Mountain Forum Himalayas (an effort of CASA in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) in preparing this district disaster management plan and a separate chapter dedicated to CASA’s PROPOSAL OF DISASTER YOUTH VOLUNTEER on page 197.  You can also see Chapter – 6.3, Resource plan, Page – 40-42, where special emphasis has been given  in emergency situations,  to adhere to the principles of “DO NO HARM’, which is a key approach of CASA’s Local Capacities for Peace (LCP).

FIRST HAM RADIO STATION IN HIMACHAL PRADESH PDF Print E-mail
The first Ham Radio Station of Himachal Pradesh will start its operation from April. The station is being set up by Himalayan Mountain Forum, with support from CASA under its disaster preparedness project. After the initial formalities are completed the installation work will be handed over to two communication engineers from Mumbai. State Council for Science, Technology, and Environment had also decided to start a ham radio station in Shimla which could not take off.

A location is also being finalised in Naddi in Dharmshala to set up the tower. For regular training help is being taken from armature ham radio clubs in Delhi and Bangalore. The radio will play a vital role in disaster management.

What is Ham Radio: - it is a high frequency two way radio station. During disasters its wireless services could be of vital importance. Anyone who is of 18years or above can become a ham radio operator by taking an exam by Ministry of telecommunication.
