CASA contributes to the Himachal Pradesh Dist.Disaster Management Plan, Kullu

We are pleased to  inform you that CASA has substantially contributed to the recently published   District Disaster Management plan jointly prepared by Kullu District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Himachal Pradesh .  To read the said document please click here or on the Himachal Pradesh Government website http://hpkullu.nic.in/disaster/DDMP-2011.pdf .

In the document you can see the contribution of our apex PAT unit CSK (Chetna Samiti Kullu) in Kullu, local CASA unit and Mountain Forum Himalayas (an effort of CASA in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) in preparing this district disaster management plan and a separate chapter dedicated to CASA’s PROPOSAL OF DISASTER YOUTH VOLUNTEER on page 197.  You can also see Chapter – 6.3, Resource plan, Page – 40-42, where special emphasis has been given  in emergency situations,  to adhere to the principles of “DO NO HARM’, which is a key approach of CASA’s Local Capacities for Peace (LCP).

UPDATE - AP &KARNATAKA FLOODS & RELIEF PROGRAMME (Vol –II) In Andhra Pradesh a massive restoration operations is in progress. Breaches to the right flood bank of the Krishna at Voleru have been plugged. While in many villages the water has receded there are still villages under four feet of water necessitating pumping to dewater the localities. Efforts are also taken to bail out water from the right bank powerhouse which was submerged. Minister for Information J. Geetha Reddy told reporters after a review of the flood situation by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah that none of the 571 villages, which were in water were cut off. She said that 3.6 lakh out of 17.5 lakh people affected by the floods were still staying in 293 relief camps. The death toll had gone up to 65. Power supply was restored to five out of six flood-hit towns, 486 out of the 627 villages and to all 49 mandal headquarters. Efforts were being made on a war-footing to repair the Sunkesula Barrage in 10 days so that Kurnool would get assured drinking water. Mr. Rosaiah appealed to the flood-affected people not to get agitated. The rain and flood have killed 226 and have left around a million homeless as 5,01,398 houses have been fully or partially damaged. About 4292 villages were affected impacting a million of people in the flood affected districts. Of the 16 districts affected in Karnataka, heavy loss of life and destruction to property was in the northern districts of Bijapur, Bagalkot, Raichur and Bellary. Rain has stopped and flood water is receding in the affected districts in north Karnataka.
