In Mirzawa CASA relief Camp, among 450 families with 2200 members, you will find Muslims fast and pray preparing for the Ram Zan, and Hindus observing their regular religious practices and still all living in peace and harmony and eating together from the community kitchen. Shri. Siya Ram Das the Hindu religious leader recollects that, ‘even before the floods in the village Mirzawa, there was good relationship between Muslims and Hindus and now in this camp, our relationship has bonded more and brought us together’. The same is the observation of Muhammad Mustafa Anzari. The Muslim community also expressed their gratitude towards CASA for providing special diet for their RamZan fast and prayer (Roza). CASA supplied 10 kg of Chewda and 2kg of sugar each to all the 38 families in Mirzawa relief camp to help them observe their religious practices even amidst crisis. Asked about their plans for the Ram Zan celebrations, Mohammad says ‘our celebrations depends on God’s Grace and His plans; so far God took care of us; and through CASA, God also provided all that we needed to observe fast and we look forward to a meaningful celebration’. Baba Siya Ram added that ‘people from five villages from Mirzawa panchayat, Parsahi, Lagunia, Karanpati, Kusaha and Barakuruva, that are 2-3 km away from the relief camp, live in good relationship irrespective of the fact that the people come from 12 different castes’. ‘CASA during the planning meeting with the local committee reinstated that all people young or old, men or women irrespective of their caste should eat together and live together and this is maintained well by all the families’ reports Alok Ghosh, additional emergency officer for the eastern zone who is stationed at Supaul to oversee the relief work initiated by CASA.
