No life possible beyond 19 days on the water September 7th is 19th day after the flood hit few Districts in North Bihar. A group of 26 people from Chatapur village in Daharia Panchayat in Supaul district reached CASA relief camp in Bhutni Pool. ‘Since river floods are not common in our village we were hoping to see decrease in water level’ says Ranjit Kumar (19). ‘Even though we wanted to come earlier, no boats were willing to take us; all the other people in our village managed to get boat. May be since we belong to lower community, no one wants to take us with them’ complains Shikendar Sada. ‘At last today we got a government boat and we are here’ continued Shikendar. 19 days of life in water filled house was managed with raw rice and the flood water. We see helicopter coming and they drop packets in the river; who will risk their life for a pack of food. For children and women life everyday was really threatening with no food, safe water and sanitation, recollects Muni Devi(70). Children in the group couldn’t bring any of their education materials everything is soaked in the rain and the flood water. Most of them in this group have no other clothes to change. Everyday hundreds of people come from interior villages in boats. CASA has initiated the feeding programme and has already feeding 10000 people that would continue at least for the next 45 days. Apart from food, people are in immediate need of clothes, soaps, medical care and so on… Your support will help CASA sustain more underprivileged lives.
