How will I live without my house and Cattles? ‘It is only God’s Grace that we are alive today!’. These are the words of Sita Devi mother of Vikas, a specially challenged child. The struggle of escaping Kosi continues for Sita Devi with her child Vikas. With new surroundings and crowded people around Vikas feels restless. ‘Vikas couldn’t realise the crisis when we were running to escape from the mounting water. I had to risk myself to save Vikas that day’ remembers Sita Devi. Two Buffallos, one Cow and a small house were the sole asset of this family. ‘When unusual flood hit our village, when everyone started escaping I thought I am going to die in the waters; my son couldn’t run like other children; I didn’t have any money with me; I wanted to take my cattle with me or at least sell it. When everyone was running for life who wants to buy buffaloes and cows? I decided to save the life of my son Vikas. I managed to walk holding Vikas in the neck-level water with high currents. I couldn’t believe myself when I reached nearby highland. Next two days was real struggle between life and death with no food and drinking water. When I almost lost all hopes, came Indian army rescue team to save us. Sita Devi is happy because she found her sister Saroj Devi who is a support for her. But a question haunts her; ‘how will we live with no cattle and house?’
