September 5 – Teachers Day! PDF Print E-mail
When thousands of Teachers in India cherish the wishes they received from their lovely students and millions of students share their memory of wishing ‘Happy Teachers Day!’ to their dear teachers, in flood affected districts of north Bihar, hundreds of schools are under water and thousands of children wait in flood relief camps.

Flood relief camps have 500 – 2000 people and among them 30-40% are children below the age of 15 years. These children would continue to miss their classes for another few of months. As river Kosi changes its course, many schools may not see the dry land and thus may not function anymore. Bihar is one of the most ‘backward’ states as far as education is concerned and this Kosi disaster may derail many children from the education system. Moreover since most of the relief camps are hosted at the schools near the affected area, that don’t have water around them also, cannot function until the victims are rehabilitated. Also remember when the people lost everything these children lost their text books, notebooks, pencil/pen box, school bag clothes….There is a fear that Kosi’s fury may increase the dropouts this year.

CASA is committed to the holistic rehabilitation of families affected by the flood. Support CASA’s commitment to be with these children to give them a bright future.
