| CASA contributes to the Himachal Pradesh Dist.Disaster Management Plan, Kullu |
We are pleased to inform you that CASA has substantially contributed to the recently published District Disaster Management plan jointly prepared by Kullu District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Himachal Pradesh . In the document you can see the contribution of our apex PAT unit CSK (Chetna Samiti Kullu) in Kullu, local CASA unit and Mountain Forum Himalayas (an effort of CASA in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) in preparing this district disaster management plan and a separate chapter dedicated to CASA’s PROPOSAL OF DISASTER YOUTH VOLUNTEER on page 197. You can also see Chapter – 6.3, Resource plan, Page – 40-42, where special emphasis has been given in emergency situations, to adhere to the principles of “DO NO HARM’, which is a key approach of CASA’s Local Capacities for Peace (LCP).

Arti Jha (age 31 years) with her relatives and three children were rescued from village Khatapur in Supaul district. The family had taken shelter on their roof top for the last 10 days eargerly waiting for someone to come and help them move to safer place. As the whole village was submerged in water, there was no means of communication / transportation and were totally cut-off from the mainland. Arti’s youngest child is just three month’s old and the other children are of age 7 years and 5 years. Arti has also her mother with her who is blind and 62 years old. They were rescued in a boat and brought to the relief camp no. 22RD, which is about 70 Km. from the Supaul district headquarter. Arti was in a state of shock and fear as they reached the camp along with other villagers from Khatapur.
