CASA South Zone in its endeavour of training the community for effective Disaster Risk Reduction skills, organised a programme on 'The role of women on Disaster Risk Reduction on Collective basis" at Tranquebar on 24.03.09. Hundreds of women from various villages participated in this programme. It was discussed that in any event of a disaster, more often than not, it is the women who are at the receiving end. Due to their domestic responsibilties, due to their physical vulnerability and their dress code, women cannot swiftly run away or escape from the disasters. Being allert and trained to cope up disasters, women can not only reduce their own vulnerability, but also can be of great help to other victims.
The Asst. Emergency Officer, South Zone, Mr. Joseph Sahayam and Team Leader, CASA Nagapatinam Resource Centre, Mr. Rajkumar Thambu along with other government officials were Present there in the programme.
