4th May: The Invitation (courtesy :-  Climate Dots)

Dear Friends,

Across the planet now we see ever more flood, ever more drought, ever more storms. People are dying, communities are being wrecked — the impacts we’re already witnessing from climate change are unlike anything we have seen before.

But because the globe is so big, it’s hard for most people to see that it’s all connected. That’s why, on May 5, 2012 the Dots will be Connected.

In places from drought-stricken Mongolia to flood-stricken Thailand, from fire-ravaged Australia to Himalayan communities threatened by glacial melt,  people will hold rallies reminding everyone what has happened in our neighborhoods. And at each of those rallies, from Kenya to Canada, from Vietnam to Vermont, someone will be holding a…dot. A huge black dot on a white banner, a “dot” of people holding hands, encircling a field where crops have dried up, a dot made of fabric and the picture taken from above.....

The organisers of the event (Connect Dots/ Climate Dots, a project of 350.org will  share those images the world around, to put a human face on climate change– they will hold up a mirror to the planet and force people to come face to face with the ravages of climate change.  CASA is doing its bit by spreading it to its own networks through this website.

Visit of Ms. Ann Varghese, IMA(ERD), USA to CASA's Malaria & Kala Azar Intervention Areas PDF Print E-mail

Year 2001-2010 has been declared by the United National as the  Decade to Roll Back Malaria ! Globally, 300–500 million episodes of malarial illness occur each year,  resulting in over one million deaths, most of which are among children under  five years of age.

CHURCH’S AUXILIARY FOR SOCIAL ACTION (CASA) has launched its pioneer programme on Elimination of Malaria and Kala Azar in Jharkhand in the Month of March 2011 with the support of Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD), Inter Church Medical Assistance World Health (IMA-WH) and GOVT of Jharkhand as collaborative form of cooperation. We are working among the Santhal and pharia tribes in 15 selected villages of most unreached region, which are Malaria and Kala Azar prone area, including the Santhal Pargana.  These vector borne diseases take its heaviest toll on the poor and vulnerable community, who cannot afford the preventive measures.

Ms. Ann Varghese, Senior Program Officer of IMA World Health, USA had recently  (November 18-22, 2011) visited some of these  intervention areas and interacted with the community members as well as some of CASA’s staff and volunteers working in these areas.  Here are some of the pictures taken by her during her visit.  Mr. Jonathan Routh, Project Officer, CASA East Zone accompanied her during this visit.
