With the dawning of the 15th Conference of Parties (COP15) of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), scheduled to be held next month in Copenhagen, Climate Change has taken the centre stage of the world! Several workshop, conferences and activities are being planned across the world on this “burning” issue of Global Warming & Climate Change. However, for CASA this has been a cross cutting theme since long and we are engaged in climate change related issues in all our programmes and activities, from a Justice and Human Rights perspective. CASA has decided to spread the awareness on climate change on the future generation by a unique and creative way to reach out to the students in hundreds of schools across the country. In the process also raise some Local Resources, which will be used for Climate Justice initiatives. The LRM (Local Resource Mobilisation) – Climate Justice campaign was started off in September 2009 by the Director, CASA at Chennai. Today it was launched at Delhi in the St. John’s School of the Mar Thoma Church at the Hands of the supreme of the Mar Thoma Church in India and the Chairperson of CASA Bishop Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan. Mr. Aloke Michyari, PRO and Mr. Dinesh Suna, Policy Officer, were amongst the CASA staff who briefed the students – approximately 500 in number, on the said project. The students also staged a beautiful skit on preservation of ecology. CASA is planning to reach out to all the major schools in Delhi with this message of Climate Justice in the next 2 months time.
