CASA’s very formation was the result of an emergency situation, when people needed the assistance of some agency to give their life a new start. Since then CASA has year after year assisted the people in different emergency situations. CASA collaborates with the local organisations, to prepare citizens to safely participate in their communities' emergency response, and to further encourage convalescence in those affected by disaster with a focus on social and psychological recovery. Cyclone Relief:India has a very long coastline of 8041 km, thus making it vulnerable to cyclones. It is a natural phenomenon which occurs almost every year in the coastline of India. Every year there are hundreds of lives lost to cyclone and huge amount of property destroyed.CASA each year assists thousands of cyclone hit people. CASA sets up relief camps to provide immediate relief. It further helps the people to rebuild their lives by providing relief materials, dry ration kits, clothes etc. Materials and assistance is provided to build up the houses and infrastructure of the villages. Flood Relief:Every year during summer India is soaked by monsoon. But sometimes these monsoons create havoc in the lives of the people. Floods are a very common phenomenon in India and the neighbouring countries. Every year hundreds of people die during flood.CASA with the help of its different partners help those stuck in these situations. People are provided with immediate relief materials like temporary shelter, cooked food, clothes, and medical assistance etc. Later on they are also given dry ration kits and money to begin their lives all over again. They are assisted materially and also given emotional assistance. Drought Relief:Monsoons not play havoc when it comes in plenty but then too when it does not arrive. It not only affects the agriculture of the country but the day to day life of the people. The worst hit is the poor and the marginalised.Helped by its partners CASA assist the drought stricken people to overcome the difficult situations and start anew. People are given financial assistance and provided with food materials. Fire Relief:Most of the disasters are natural but some of them are also manmade which claim a large number of life and property. Fire is one of such disasters. According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), fire was the cause of 7.1% of deaths due to un-natural cause in India in 2004.CASA helps people in these kinds of difficult situations in different parts of the country, at various times. Other Relief Work:CASA also undertakes emergency works and gives assistance at the time of ethnic clashes, malaria epidemic, cloudburst, and various other situations; when people are in dire need of help. The following table shows the break-up of the total number of emergency interventions taken up during the year 2006-2007
