Global Launch of ACT Alliance in India
 
In India, the ACT Alliance Launch was done collectively by the ACT Alliance India forum, which has 26 organisations (5 implementing orgranisations & 20 Resource Agencies & 1 observer) members of the ACT Alliance, including CASA.  We decided to jointly work towards the launch and share the  expenses between us.  Thus various working groups were formed  such as Programme Group, Media Group, Logistics group, etc among the member organizations.  CASA took the lead role to coordinate this event.

Global Launch of ACT Alliance in India : One of the largest Humanitarian Aid and Development International Organisation in the world.
 
Today, on the  24th March,  ACT Alliance  is being launched globally in more than 65 countries, including India.   The  ACT Alliance was officially launched in India by Sri Mohammad Shafi Qureshi, Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, at a National event attended by   various dignitaries from the Civil Society Organisations and  Political leaders, at the PHD House, New Delhi, organized by the ACT Alliance India Forum. Shri Jayant Kumar Of CASA Elected As Chairperson Of VANI
HUMANITARIAN AID FUND (HAF) – REFLECTION & SHARING WORKSHOP (5TH & 6TH May 2009)
 
It is a matter of great pride and privilege for CASA that Shri Jayant Kumar, Head of Programme (HOP) in CASA has been elected as the Chairperson of VANI (Voluntary Action Network of India) for its current term of three years beginning from 10.02.2010. 
 
Having joined CASA as a Field Officer in the year 1980, Shri Jayant Kumar has worked in different capacities and attained the prestigious position of Head of Programme (HOP) of CASA in 2001. As CASA’s HOP, Shri Jayant Kumar is coordinating all its development related activities in 24 states in India and has been actively engaged with different networks throughout the country. Shri Jayant Kumar has actively been engaged with VANI for a long period of time and was its Treasurer too once.

A 2 days reflection & sharing workshop was organized by CASA along with DKH – Germany, on the 5th & 6th of May 2009 at New Delhi, aimed at experience sharing by the partners, reviewing the mechanism and also look at ways of strengthening the Humanitarian Aid Fund mechanism of CASA & DKH.
The first half of first day was also devoted to thematic presentations on Climate Change. The details of the presentations made are as given below:

Cultural skill training to DMTF members at Tranquebar, Nagapattinam
 
In preparing the communty to face the disasters with better preparedness, in order to reduce the vulnerability CASA has been imparting the CBDP - (Community Based Disaster Preparedness).  Formation of DMTF (Disaster Mitigation Task Force) is an integral part of the CBDP. In this process, the DMTF members are trained in various fields to face the disaster and help the victims.  The cultural team through various street theatre processes can create effective awareness among the communities particularly in the rural areas.  In this line”Cultural skill training to DMTF members programme" was organised by CASA South Zone on 27 to 29th March'09 at Tranquebar, Nagapattinam.

CASA ROUNDTABLE MEETING
 
The CASA Round Table, which is a listed Round Table of the World Council of Churches, was successfully conducted at Shiva Oasis Resort in Behror, Rajasthan during 24 – 26 March, 2009. The Round Table was attended by 11 ecumenical agencies from all across the globe, 2 members of the CASA executive committee and 15 staff members of CASA, from its 4 zones and headquarters.

DRRM Training for Women at Tranquebar on 23.03.09
 
CASA South Zone in its endeavour of training the community for effective Disaster Risk Reduction skills, organised a programme on 'The role of women on Disaster Risk Reduction on Collective basis" at Tranquebar on 24.03.09.  Hundreds of women from various villages participated in this programme. It was discussed that in any event of a disaster, more often than not, it is the women who are at the receiving end. Due to their domestic responsibilties, due to their physical vulnerability and their dress code, women cannot swiftly run away or escape from the disasters.  Being allert and trained to cope up disasters, women can not only reduce their own vulnerability, but also can be of great help to other victims.
